With motocross being the second-most demanding sport in the world, physical conditioning is probably the most important yet under-looked performance advantage out there. Just like hopping up your motor or suspension, there are always ways to better your body. We heard good things about MGM Sports Nutrition (a shaklee distributor) from Alan Gerkey of All Pro MX Training, the same guy that trains stars like Stephane Roncada, Travis Preston and Mike Brandes.
After taking Gerkey's advice and spending a little over a month with the products, we must admit that we're hooked. Though it took a few weeks to feel any significant change, we have experienced an observable difference with late-moto fade. MGM Supplement (a shaklee distributor) offers several different products, but we concentrated our testing efforts on the Performance and Physique drink mixes.
Shaklee Performance is a drink similar to Gatorade but way better. Water and other sports drinks only have a 50% absorption rate, whereas Performance has a 70% rate. When the body loses 2% of its fluids (basically, when thirst starts), it begins to lose muscular strength and performance declines, which is where Shaklee really kicks in. Those last few laps of a long moto were noticeably easier after consuming the products. Another cool thing about Shaklee is that there is no refined sugar in Performance, eliminating any kind of insulin reaction or sugar crash.
The other product we tested, Shaklee Physique, is a recovery drink. Taking it after you ride provides your body with nutrients to speed recovery and repair and rebuild muscle tissue. It also helps prevent that beat-up feeling of motoing all day, which will help you direct all of your attention to your wife, who is wondering where you've been all day!
