Lower your risk of Colorectal Cancer with a High-Fiber Diet!
Now for the good news: reversing these horrendous numbers is deceptively simple. Two studies* in the prestigious English medical journal Lancedt have found that people who eat the hightest amounts of dietary fiber (between 30 and 35 grams a day) reduced their risk of colon cancer ab an astounding 40%! The first study is extremely signifiacant because of its statistical power. It involved a large number of people from diverse locations and extended over a long period of time.
This study looked at the diets of 519,978 subjects in 10 European countries for a four-and-a half year period. The second study compared a sub group of subjects from the first study. They compated the development of cancer between people wiht no colorectal polyps and those with at least one polyp. The type of polyp studied often turns cancerous. Even those with polyps reduced their risk.
The recommend daily intake of fiber for Americans is 25 to 30 grams a day. Tragically, the average fiber intake in the US is an average of 11 to 15 grams a day!
Editors Comment: We focus strongly on vitamins, minerals and herbs, but I belive we need to include in that focus our fiber intake. According to the Lancet studies, we could save thousands of lives a year and untold suffering simply by increasing our fiber intake. An "ah haugh" Moment for preventing Headaches...
I'm under the care of a Neurologist for my M.S..
She gave me a sample drug to help the pains of my Migraines. I did not want to add yet another drug to my list, but I did open the accompanying drug info sheet from the bow. And to my delight it stated that there seem to be food triggers.
I read on to my dismay and found that THE FOUR FOODS LISTED were ones I'd been enjoying alot lately. I call them the Four "C's" since they each begin with the letter C.

A Headache Testimony using Natural Supplements
Migraine and vascular headaches were suffered for two years following a car accident in which my car was totaled. How to Lower Blood Pressure through Nutrition
I once heard Shirley Fike say that just about everyone can get their Blood Pressure to normal in 3 to 5 days.

Great Cancer Testimony

I want to thank our Shaklee Rep., and the very many of you that are responsible for the research, quality production and distribuition of the Shaklee products that my family and I use.
Thank you for the integrity we have seen over these past 15 years that we have used shaklee.
I have wanted to pass this thank you on for a long time and just haven't gotten around to it. I decided to take and make the time today.
A few days ago my wife and I saw our 5th grade daughter's Christmas choir concert. I saw the family physician that I had in 1997 when I was diagnosed for the second time in two years with Malignant Melanoma.
In 97' it had metastisized to stage 3 cancer. After I saw the concert I spoke to my physician about his expectations that I would be here still. He did not. Meanwhile, I am able to be husband and father still to children 23 to 10.
I am certain that the foundational shaklee supplement regimen that I take, with anti-oxidant's has had so much to do with my being here still. Thank you, and thank you on the behalf of a 10 year old girl who still has her father.
To very briefly review, I could be a poster boy for the need to utilize sound science for maximum wellness, and have my physician be a part of that vs. not all of that. In my life, when it has been "all of it", it has been to treat illness only rather than to achieve how "well" I can be.
Let me outline: illness - In 1995 I was diagnosed with Stage I Malignant Melanoma. I had the cancerous mole for months, not knowing what it was. wellness: Although I had the mole for months I was faithfully taking shaklee.
How interesting that the cancer was held to stage 1. illness: I was given a "clean" bill of health, but told nothing about supplements, and was told I had a bigger chance of dying from a car wreck than getting cancer again. (I wish I was exaggerating this comment to me but I'm not.) further illness:
I get busy with career, life, stop taking all shaklee for approximately 9 months. Because, "I didn't have time", and my physician at the time basically gave me a message of invincibility. Inevitably, I acquired stage 3 malignant melanoma. I stopped reading statistics years ago.
Back then the 5 year survival rate for my cancer type was 38%. I saw a 10 year survival rate study as low as 9%. wellness: I develop a mantra of "give me shaklee or give me death." I am devoted to taking my regimen of shaklee supplement products.
I am almost 8 years post my last cancer episode. illness: After two solid years of my wife begging me to go to the chiropractor for severe neck pain (2x a month, neck pain, migraines, sick to my stomach) I went (January 03'). This was after a car wreck in 96...... Why didn't I get it then.... During those two years of spousal pleading I saw a Physical Therapist at the prescription of my doctor.
Oh yeah, and I had a MRI. ...a ruptured disc..... a reason for the pain.... Physical Therapy treated the symptoms ok. For me Chiropractic treated the cause area and the symptoms really well. wellness and counting: as early 03' continued I began to realize that although I will always need and want physcian's, and am thankful for them, only I can be my wellness "manager."
I had my last migraine in January of 03', right before my first adjustment. As many of you know I have battled weight issues in my adulthood, some clear obesity links from my Father's side. I made moves from staving off illnesses, to pursuing wellness through 03'.
I got "straightened out", worked on becoming happier, lost 75 lbs, and only upped my commitment to shaklee products. Now, at 47, I feel 20 years younger than two years ago. I run 25-30 miles a week. Hope to be in my first marathon before I turn 50. Feel great, feel healthy, and see concerts and activities that a precious 10 year old girl is in. I am so thankful.

BREAST LUMP – The Power to Heal...

In November, 2004, as I was standing at the counter, I felt a sharp pain in my left breast. I thought I must have bumped myself, but later that night the pain was all the way through to my backbone. I went to bed still hoping that I had just bumped it. The next morning the area was getting to be a hard lump with swelling and was getting red. The next day it was growing larger and had progressed to the underside of the breast.
By this time I had started taking larger amounts of Shaklee Supplements than what I usually took, especially the Antioxidants and Immune Building supplements and the new Flavomax, because the lump had now started to encompass the entire tip of my breast to the size of my hand and and was still painful, red and swollen and now the nipple was inverted. It seemed to be growing with each breath, and I kept lookiing at it as I felt sure it looked lopsided. By this time I realized this was getting serious so I went on the internet and saw all my symptoms listed under a fast growing Breast Cancer which didn't offer much hope of any treatment.
I remembered hearing a tape by Barb Herman about her taking twenty-four Vita Lea a day when she had Breast Cancer, because of the natural Cobalt in it, along with a lot of the rest of the Shaklee supplements, so I started adding massive amounts of VitaLea along with all my other supplements & Soy Protein three times a day, and that is when my symptoms started to reverse.
It started to regress in the same manner that it had progressed, and all the while the chest wall was tender and my lymph nodes were sore and I had symptoms like a col while it was regressing back.This went on for two weeks, all the while I was taking all my Shaklee. I was praying a lot and I went up for a prayer healing at church about 9 days before my doctor's appointment and by the time I got to the doctor, all my symptoms went away.
In the meantime, my daughter , who is a nurse, had made the doctor's appointment in Columbus a few weeks earlier with a specialist since when she saw it,she was very concerned. At this time, even though it was a lot better and I couldn't feel the lump anymore, my chest wall and nodes were still sore.and the nipple was still a little inverted, when she made the appointment. My doctor's appointment wasn't for another ten days, so I had more time to keep taking my supplements.
When I finally got to the appointment, the doctor couldn't find any lump or anything else wrong. She said "I have never seen Cancer go away without some help". But I had lots of help, lots of prayer and lots of Shaklee supplements, but of course she was referring to Chemo and Radiation or Surgery, not considering the alternative things that I had done.

Setting the Record Straight on Vitamin E
Why the Study Is Flawed
There are significant flaws and inaccuracies in this meta-analysis conducted by researchers from Johns Hopkins University. A meta-analysis is not a new study. It is simply a compilation of previously run large-scale clinical studies. Scientific experts have noted major problems with the authors’ conclusions drawn from this meta-analysis, which ignored the vast majority of existing published studies, for the following reasons:
- There was a bias in the selection of the studies to review. The researchers selected only 19 of the 2,170 studies available on Vitamin E.
- Eighteen of the 19 studies reviewed did not support the researchers’ conclusions. The only study that did support their conclusions was a hormone replacement therapy study that examined the effects of using Vitamin E and estrogen in combination, which confuses the results of this study.
- Less than half of the studies reviewed were done on Vitamin E alone
- Additionally, studies using higher than 400 IU were done on diseased populations, whereas studies using less than 400 IU were done on healthy people.
- While the authors concluded that Vitamin E supplementation did not affect all-cause mortality (death risk), with no supporting data they recommended that people should not exceed a daily dose of 400 IU.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Institute of Medicine, which sets recommended daily dietary guidelines for vitamin supplements, have identified the tolerable upper level of natural Vitamin E intake at 1500 IU/day for adults. The Institute of Medicine defines the upper limit as "the maximum intake of a nutrient that is likely to pose no risk of adverse health effects in almost all healthy individuals in the general population."
Dr. Jeffrey Blumberg, Associate Director of Tufts University’s Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging, member of Shaklee’s Scientific Advisory Board, and widely recognized nutrition expert, emphasized that the research used in the study looked at people already at high risk of death, which can’t be used to determine what’s good for healthy people.
Dr. Blumberg also stated that “these investigators selected 19 specific studies to analyze. In doing so, they also selected not to employ a vast number of studies that show no harm from Vitamin E and a great deal of benefit.”
In reaching their conclusions, the authors ignored a huge body of research that supports the health benefits of Vitamin E supplementation.
Vitamin E Is Safe and Effective
There are more than 1,000 studies that support the safe and efficacious use of Vitamin E supplements, including several studies that were reviewed in this recent analysis. - 1994 – Levels of Vitamin E intake were inversely correlated with coronary deaths in both women and men in a large (>5000 people), long-term (14 year follow-up) Finnish study (Am. J. Epidemiol. 139:1180-1189).
- 1997 – A review of the literature concerning vitamin E and breast cancer concluded “although epidemiologic study results have been inconsistent, further study of this nontoxic vitamin is warranted.” (Nutr. Cancer 27:109-117).
- 2000 - Supplementation with Vitamin E may prevent ischemic stroke in high risk hypertensive patients (Arch. Neurol. 57:1503-1509; analysis of data from the Alpha-Tocopherol, Beta-Carotene Cancer Prevention Study).
- 2004 – Protective effect of Vitamin E supplementation on upper respiratory tract infections in elderly nursing home residents (JAMA 292:828-836).

2004 – Supplementation with Vitamins E and C in combination is associated with reduced prevalence and incidence of Alzheimer's Disease (Arch. Neurol. 61:82-88; this study is from Johns Hopkins). - FDA – Allows qualified health claim regarding “consumption of antioxidants (including Vitamin E) and reduced risk of some forms of cancer.”
This week’s headlines aside, the preponderance of scientific and clinical data shows well-established benefits of Vitamin E for otherwise healthy individuals.
