Cholesterol-lowering Drug blamed for Memory Loss

Cholesterol-lowering Drug blamed for Memory Loss:

On May 16th, 2005, an article in the Niagara Falls Review shared the following info: Dr. Duane Graveline, former astronaut, medical researcher, and aerospace scientist refuses to take LIPITOR ever again! WHY? … One day, his wife found him walking aimlessly about their property. When she spoke to him he did not recognize her. He was rushed to a neurologist and it was only six hours later his senses returned. The diagnosis? … global transient amnesia. His only medication? … Lipitor.

The medication was stopped, but doctors refused to believe this cholesterol-lowering drug was the cause of this incident. A year later, Dr. Graveline was urged to retry half the dose of Lipitor. Six weeks later, his entire life was suddenly eradicated from memory. He had no recall of his children, medical school, years as a flight surgeon, or his time as an astronaut. The black pit of amnesia lasted 12 hours.

Dr. Graveline later learned of a study at the University of California that detailed cases similar to his own. He then established a website and has since then has received thousands of reports from others on cholesterol lowering drugs who assumed their confusion, disorientation and forgetfulness was due to aging. You can see his website at www.spacedoc.net.

A drug-free approach to manage cholesterol levels is outlined below:

The first step includes three parts:
excellent diet, low in animal fats and include at least one serving of Shaklee Soy Protein daily (in 38 studies involving 730 participants on soy isoflavones, cholesterol rates changed by the following averages: total cholesterol dropped 9%, LDL dropped 63% triglycerides dropped 11%, & HDL rose 2%)
be consistent with an excellent exercise program,
and make sure your bowels are moving properly (use fibre, water & Shaklee Herb-Lax)
Secondly, investigate blood sugar levels (high blood sugar elevates cholesterol) … if your blood sugar is borderline high or high, reduce your carbohydrate intake and use Shaklee’s Glucose Regulation Complex.
Thirdly, have your homocysteine level checked … if it is high, supplement with Shaklee’s B Complex faithfully on a daily basis (high homocysteine can increase plaque formation dramatically)
If cholesterol continues to remain high, Shaklee’s “Cholesterol Lowering Six Pack” includes:

1) Unflavored Fiber Plan Drink Mix 2) Omega-3 Complex; 3) CoenzymeQ10; 4) Cholesterol Regulating Complex; 5) Garlic; 6) and Vitamin E
