How Chuck has Overcome Incredible Odds

Chuck’s Vivix Story
Updated 12/09

Below is a story about my husband and his experience to date on Vivix, Shaklee's anti-aging tonic.  He has been on various Shaklee supplements since 2001, but we have seen the most change since starting Vivix August 2008.  The improvements became noticeable within 2 months of starting Vivix.

Before Vivix, our goal was to keep him as healthy as possible so his body only needed to deal with Parkinson's.  Since Vivix, our goal has changed to improving his DNA, reducing his symptoms and his medications; then use his personal experience to help others.  I often reflect on why God put Shaklee in my path – and it’s times like this when I hear the answer.

December 2008

I am 58, Chuck is 78.  We’ve been married 24 years.  He is the love of my life.  What I didn’t know way back before we met, was that I was in love with him even before I knew he existed.  Do you know what I mean?  That’s the kind of relationship we have.

In 2003 Chuck was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease – a progressive neurological disorder with no known cure.  When you hear Parkinson’s you may think of Michael J. Fox, or the former Pope, who lived with Parkinson’s for many, many years.  Chuck has a very positive attitude about his PD, he figures something would eventually get him, and it could be worse.
For those of you not familiar with PD, some of the symptoms are:

Ø  tremors in the hands and legs
Ø  slow walk, eventually becoming a shuffle
Ø  hunched posture
Ø  balance and coordination issues
Ø  impaired large and small muscle dexterity
Ø  speech problems
Ø  drooling

Ø  facial ‘mask’ – people with PD begin to lose their expression, have a quiet dullness about them, or as I refer to it, their lights go out

Chuck has been taking Shaklee supplements since 2001 and is on prescription meds for the PD.  I’ve done a lot of research, talked with others, and have him on a pretty solid Shaklee program – which we are constantly tweaking as we learn more.

At convention this year (2008), when Vivix, our new anti-aging tonic, was announced, Dr. Jamie McManus, Director of Health Sciences at Shaklee, said people with diabetes, arthritis, heart disease and neurological diseases would have the most results.  Well, you can imagine my cheer at that news!

I brought Vivix home from convention; Chuck began taking it mid August and has been faithful with it every day!  He promised me he would do that for 6 months before making any decision on whether to continue it or not.  Keep in mind, my darling husband is my very best skeptic.

When asked how he feels today, he says he feels better but not sure exactly how. My report to you is that little things are happening.  And it is the little things in life that mean the most!  He’s back to:
1.    laughing, smiling and making jokes,
2.    participating in conversations at family gatherings,
3.    whistling and singing silly songs,
4.    standing straighter when he hugs me,
5.    he’s just more engaged in life,
6.    and the best of all – when you look into his eyes, his lights are back on!

Is Vivix making a difference in Chuck’s health and in our hope for him?  You bet it is!  And is he going to keep taking it after his promised 6 months?  He better!

Updates

1/09:  Chuck had cataract surgery in both eyes in Nov. and Dec., then eyelid lift surgery early January.  At his one-week checkup after the last procedure, his surgeon said, “You are healing much faster than I expected!”  Most 78 year olds don’t hear that!  It’s the prayers & Shaklee!

2/09:  Chuck had his 6-month check-up with his neurologist in January.  With reluctance, he agreed to have Chuck go off Sinemet, one of his two PD meds, which he had started April 2008 to help with the increased tremors and other symptoms (he’s been taking Requip since 2004).  We think Sinemet may have been partially responsible for the atrial fibrillation that was found in October 2008 (one of the side affects is heart irregularities but neither the cardiologist nor neurologist could find a correlation).   We have not seen an increase in his PD symptoms since stopping Sinemet.  He had a re-check with the cardiologist late January and the atrial fibrillation/congestive heart failure was downgraded to a heart flutter, his heart muscle is stronger. (Thank you Jesus!).  He is still on Atenolol (beta-blocker) and Lisinopril (ACE inhibitor) for the A.Fib. diagnosed in October.

Chuck is also on a nutritional and detoxing program designed by Dr. Richard Brouse, chiropractic physician, biochemist, and certified clinical nutritionist in Oregon, working with him long distance.   The Build a Better You program includes extensive blood, hair, and urine testing, with a program designed specifically for Chuck’s results. After years of research and evaluation, Dr. Brouse has chosen to continue to work exclusively with Shaklee products. (I was thrilled to discover through this process that the Shaklee supplement program Chuck was already on, based on research I had done, was very close to Dr. Brouse’s recommendations!)

3/09:  “I have been meaning to tell you what a difference I noticed in Uncle Chuck when you were back home last month.  The night we were together for dinner he was much more his old self, making jokes and smiling, socializing. Was so happy to see him back to his happy self. Love you! Lisa”

6/09:  It was decided by a heart specialist and Chuck to have a heart ablation in early April to completely correct the electrical problem causing the heart flutter.  He did just fine with it, no complications (thank you Jesus).  Early May he had an MRI and follow up with the heart specialist.  The doctor was amazed at how perfectly Chuck’s heart is working, and how some of his earlier concerns about what they saw on the CT Scan no longer existed!  Chuck is doing great, no restrictions; come back in 6 months and he’d probably take him off the two meds.  Now he is working towards regaining his strength and stamina.

9/09:  Taken off Lisinopril because he no longer needs it; Atenolol cut in half – Yippee!

10/09: Heart Clinic follow up.  Chuck was told the Ejection Fraction (the ability of the heart to pump the blood out, the systolic function) has not only greatly improved, it is back to normal!  The Physician’s Assistant said that is probably due to the Ablation procedure, which corrected his fast heart, the medications and natural healing.  Atenolol cut in half again!

11/09:  Our chiropractor, whom Chuck and I have seen regularly since about 2001, has noticed an improvement in Chuck too – in the last several months he adjusts more easily, holds his adjustments longer, he is more flexible, and his dry humor is back!

12/09:  6 month check up with neurologist.  Now HE wants information on Vivix!
