Season for MGM Supplement Get Well Tea

After many phone calls the past two weeks it reminded me that kids have started school & are exposed to many new 'bugs' and w/ weather changes etc. it is the season to make sure you have a big batch of our Get Well Tea on hand b/c when you need it there is no time to start grinding everything up.
See below.. IT WORKS!!

Wellness Drink
Thanks to Barb Herman & Allan & Hannah Sharapan
Combine the following in a large bowl to make a supply of Wellness Drink Mix.
1 bottle of Vitiman Infant
Mix Blend all ingredients together until thoroughly mixed. Store in a cool, dry location in a closed container. (Protein & Physique cans work well, just re-label them.)Mix 3-4 scoops (4-6 Tablespoons) of Wellness Drink with 8-10 oz. of cold BestWater and/or juice in a blender, shaker, or glass. In a blender add ice cubes and blend until cubes disappear.
Benefits: Wellness Drink will dramatically rebuild a person's health and help regain lost weight during, or after a prolonged illness, cancer therapy, post surgery, serious injury, stroke, and whenever the body has been debilitated, grossly insulted or deprived of essential nutrients.
Of course a well person can enjoy Wellness Drink at any time. Sort of, nutrient insurance.
Suggested regimen: Drink from one to four 8oz. glasses of Wellness Drink each day,one each in the morning, at noon, in the evening and at bedtime.
It can be enjoyed with, or independently of, meals, or as in the case of those who cannot or will not eat solid food, by itself to the exclusion of solid food.
Wellness Drink may be used for days, weeks, months, or until the problems have been alleviated or have disappeared. Additional food supplements may be added at any time for increased results.
Idea: Prepare three days of Wellness Drink Mix (40 scoops) ahead of time in zip-lock bags. Add a card with explicit instructions (or this sheet). Give this, as a gift to those whom you know are ill or in need of Wellness Drink. Suggest to your existing consumers to purchase the baggies to give to their family members.
Get Well Tea

Grind the following into a fine powder to make a supply, about 1 cup, of Get Well Tea Mix. A coffee grinder is effective for grinding. Keep your Get Well Tea in a tightly covered container.
Mix
To boiling water, BestWater is best of course, add ½-rounded teaspoon of Get Well Tea Mix and stir well. Add honey or fructose to taste, if a sweetener is desired or 3T Orange Re-hydrater.
Sip from the cup or spoon and stir regularly so the granules remain in suspension. It is very important not to leave any granules at the bottom of your cup. For best results, drink a second cup 30 minutes after the first cup. Continue drinking Get Well Tea every hour, or every couple of hours, or as often as you are comfortable in doing so until you are feeling better. If dehydration is a concern, add more Re-hydrater to the water.
You will want to have your Get Well Tea whenever you are feeling less than well, or feel as though you are coming down with a cold, flu, virus, etc.
Get Well Tea provides almost instant results. You will feel better. If you do not have all of the above ingredients, make it with what you have, knowing you can add more of the immune boosters. However, this formula WORKS, and each product plays an important role with the total, working synergistically to provide greater results.
We make 2-3 batches at one time to ensure that we always have it on hand at home and when we travel. Enjoy.
To your better health & thanks to Barbara Herman for the recipe.
For Babies: (omit the immune builder whem making this recipe for young children)
Mix a small amount of Get Well Tea Mix into Pure Water. Stir and use a dropper to dispense into baby's mouth.
When Kaitlyn was an infant and Get Well Tea was given at the "appearance of" the onset of an illness, she would cry and sometimes resist as with some foods or medications. However, at age 2, she now looks forward to Get Well Tea and drinks it when suggested with NO resistance whatsoever. Hurrah for Kaitlyn!!! Hurrah for mother's perseverance!!!

Garlic Compound Beats Antibotic - Resistant Bug

Microbiologist Dr Ron Cutler, based at the University of East London, claims that the garlic compound allicin not only kills established varieties of MRSA, but also destroys the new generation of 'super-superbugs' that have evolved resistance to Vancomycin and Glycopeptides, the powerful antibiotics widely considered to be the last line of defence against MRSA.
Allicin can cure patients with MRSA-infected wounds within weeks, according to a paper to be published early next year.MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) now causes an estimated 2,000 deaths in UK hospitals each year, mainly through secondary infection of surgical wounds.
MRSA organisms can live harmlessly in humans and are carried in the nasal passages and on the skin, but they can cause fatal infection in immune-suppressed patients, the elderly, the young and those with surgical implants.Doctors have become increasingly alarmed over the past few months by the emergence in UK hospitals of new generations of resistant strains of MRSA known as VISAs and GISAs (Vancomycin or Glycopeptide-resistant Staphylococcus aureus).
MRSA has also become endemic in many hospitals, especially in London and the south-east of England. After showing that allicin destroys the MRSA microbe in laboratory trials, Cutler has now teamed up with the firm Allicin International to develop topical treatments including a nasal cream, oral capsules and soaps that have proved effective against both MRSA and GISA.

The company has also provided funding for a major clinical trial to test the use of allicin to reduce nasal carriage on around 200 healthy volunteers. Initial results are due to be published in summer 2004."The trials we have conducted so far show that this formulation is highly effective against MRSA, and it could save many lives. This finding is backed up by initial findings from a number of recent case studies. We have been trying to set up a clinical trial for many months now, and at last we have secured funding from sources including Allicin International," said Dr Cutler.
The in vitro research was presented at the Institute of Biomedical Scientists congress in Birmingham during October and is being prepared for publication in the Journal of Biomedical Science next year."MRSA is causing a genuine crisis in our hospital system in Britain and worldwide. Antibiotics are increasingly ineffective, but we do have a powerful natural ally.

Garlic has been used in medicine for centuries, and it should be no surprise that it is effective against this very modern infectio," added Cutler. A study published last year found that raw garlic consumption could help limit the damage done to the heart after surgery because of its natural antioxidant properties. Supplements of allicin have also been shown to reduce risk of colds, prevent high blood pressure and kill cancer cells.

Broccoli & Breast Cancer

Shaklee's CarotoMax is a blend of nature's carotenoids
with a trio of other phytonutrients including broccoli extract.

Broccoli (Sprouts or Extract) May Halt Growth of Breast Cancer Cells

In recent years, medical researchers have been battling a top killer of women
-- breast cancer.
One study may have found answer in a component of broccoli.

Indole-3-carbino, which is found in broccoli, interferes with the breast cancer cell's
life cycle in a way that hints at a totally new signaling pathway in the cell. The chemical
seems to be working by a very unusual mechanism. It turns off a gene for an enzyme
important in the cell's growth cycle.

The chemical Indole-3-carbino (I3C) is a component of broccoli and other
members of the Brassica family, such as brussels sprouts, bok choy, kale,
chard and turnips.

I3C has low toxicity but seems to be very effective in fighting breast cancer cells.
According to the study, it is an effective agent at blocking tumorigenesis in rats.
When fed to them, I3C can block 95 percent of all breast cancers in rats. The
compound also works independently of the hormone estrogen, unlike breast cancer
treatment drugs like Tamoxifen.

I3C would be a good candidate for use in combination therapy with drugs those
that do interfere with estrogen.

In fact, research shows that I3C does not act on estrogen at all. Instead the
chemical actually stops the cell cycle. When I3C reacts with stomach acid, the
byproducts are the ones responsible for the anti-estrogen and certain toxic
effects of the broccoli compounds. I3C initiates a sudden drop in the generation
of the enzyme CDK6, or cyclin-dependent kinase 6.

Help with Gas and Bloating

Understanding Digestive Enzymes

Is Gas & Bloating a Problem for YOU?

First of all, one must understand that Gas & Bloating
can be caused by several different problems, the four
most common being ……

1. A Sluggish Bowel – Bowels should operate by the
"Bulk-in = Bulk-out" principle. If this is not happening,
fecal matter is sitting in the bowel and fermenting, which
causes gas & bloating ….. If this is the case, make sure
your diet contains lots of water and fibre.
Herbal Laxative
is recommended

2. Lack of Intestinal Microflora – From the bottom of the
stomach through to the rectum (which is a 26 foot muscular
tube) we need 3 to 5 pounds of intestinal microflora. If there
is a deficiency of microflora, you WILL have gas and bloating ….
If this is the case, use Good Bacteria.

3. Food Allergies – if you are allergic to foods, a common
symptom of food allergies, is gas and bloating.….. If this is
the case, avoid eating those foods.

4. Lack of Digestive Enzymes – As the body ages, many
people lose the ability to produce enough of the needed
enzymes to digest fats, sugars, proteins or complex
carbohydrates. This causes uncomfortable gastrointestinal
distress. including gas & bloating ….. If this is the case,
use Simiple Digestion Aid. Simiple Digestion Aid is a comprehensive digestive
enzyme product that contains five different digestive enzymes:

a. Lactase Enzyme: Breaks down lactose, or milk sugar,
found in dairy products
b. Alpha d-galactosidase: Breaks down complex sugars in
gas-producing vegetables such as beans, cabbage,
cauliflower, broccoli, etc.
c. Protease: breaks down protein in meats and legumes
d. Amylase: breaks down starchy carbohydrates in foods
such as bread, pasta, potatoes
e. Lipase: breaks down fats in food

Just ONE little Simiple Digestion Aid capsule offers relief after meals that
cause digestive discomfort. It is plant-based and acid-resistant,
to survive breakdown by stomach acid.

Constipation Remedy Information

Many children and adults today suffer from constipation, a direct problem generally caused from our refined diets. Normally, it may be best to have one to three soft, formed bowel movements per day. Adequate amounts of water are essential to provide fluids to keep the stool from becoming too dry, making it difficult for it to pass through the colon. Generally speaking, a normal size adult does well drinking two quarts of Purified water per day.

Foods high in fiber are essential for the movement of the colon that pushes food through the digestive tract. Today’s highly processed, low fiber foods are so low in fiber the bowels are not able to move the foods through the colon, causing constipation.

Since the colon is the main part of the digestive tract, when food waste material has set in the colon for eighteen to twenty four hours this waste creates harmful toxins. Over time, these toxins may permeate through the wall of the intestine causing other problems including headaches, muscle and jaw pain and sleep problems to name a few.

My experience has shown when fiber in the diet is improved, a balanced Nutritional Program is begun, plenty of water is ingested and a regular exercise program followed, constipation begins to improve within days.

Generally, when looking at processed foods, it is important to look at the side of the package to the nutritional label, and check to be sure there are at least 4 grams of fiber in each serving, and less than 7 grams of sugar in each serving.

Food allergies may contribute to constipation. Many have found eliminating or decreasing the following foods might be helpful:

Milk
sugars
Refined carbohydrates
Meat
Fats or other rich foods
Spicy foods
Coffee
Alcohol

The following foods have been beneficial to us to help increase fiber and fluid in the bowels:

2 quarts Purified Water per day for a normal size adult
Whole grains such as oats, barley, millet, brown rice
Fresh fruits and vegetables
Flax seed or oil (avoid seeds if you have diverticulitis)
Seeds and nuts

When this regimen is followed, it is extremely helpful with constipation problems. For more information on products helpful for constipation go HERE or Call 888-272-6701.
When constipation is caused from poor nutrition and diet, We believe a natural approach would be a healthier, more effective approach.

Cancer Cells Require Sugar

Contributing Editor: Health Sciences Institute e-Alert
The Good Fight

If you search the Internet using the words "cancer" and "sugar," one person's name will come up again and again: Otto Warburg, Ph.D.
More than 70 years ago, Dr. Warburg won the Nobel Prize in medicine when he discovered that cancer cells require glucose (sugar) for growth. All cells have a requirement for glucose, but cancer cells consume as much as 4 to 5 times more glucose than normal, healthy cells. In fact, they're unable to multiply rapidly without it.
It's simply astonishing to me that this simple knowledge hasn't become the basis for Rule One in any cancer fight: Stop eating sugar immediately.

-----------------------------------------------------
Sugar, minus nutrients
-----------------------------------------------------
I asked HSI Panelist Allan Spreen, M.D., if he could shed some light on the association of sugar and cancer, and here's what he had to say:
"Nutritionally oriented doctors have known about the refined sugar/cancer association for decades. Dr. Warburg was about as brilliant as they come, right up there with Hans Nieper, M.D., Linus Pauling, Ph.D., and possibly even the incomparable Nikola Tesla (no doctorate... just plain super- humanly brilliant). His medical insight was amazing.
"It's pretty easy to figure that the cells that are dividing (multiplying) the fastest have the highest requirement for energy (to sustain such accelerated growth). Cutting out the source is similar to cutting off the blood supply - though not quite as drastic, it's certainly a step worth taking.
"Another issue is the fact that refined sugars are not nutrient-dense... they contain none of the nutrients necessary for the assimilation of the sugar ingested. Therefore, the body must drain body stores (if any are present) to handle the job, leaving less (or none) for other tasks. This is why chewing on natural sugar cane is not the problem - it's eating the pure, concentrated, naked-calorie refined sugar after processing out the water, fiber (which slows the sugar assimilation), and nutrients.
"Obviously giving up sugar isn't the cure for cancer. But I'd recommend the tactic STRONGLY to anyone with cancer (or, actually, any other illness)."

-----------------------------------------------------
Substitutes help the cause
-----------------------------------------------------
Because I've addressed sugar substitutes in previous e- Alerts (most recently in "The Sweet Lowdown" 6/3/04), I wondered if one of these alternate sweeteners (such as stevia or xylitol) might also feed the cancer cells in the same way sugar does.
Dr. Spreen said, "Stevia won't, because it's zero-calorie. Xylitol could be more of a quandary. It does contain calories (about 40% less than sugar), and it's labeled a 'sugar-alcohol.' Apparently that status causes a slower release into the body and less absorption, giving it a lower glycemic index. For that reason it would be less of a problem as it isn't so strong a refined carbohydrate. How much less would be controversial, since the sugar/cancer cell growth issue itself is a tough one."
Keep in mind that the body also breaks down carbohydrates into glucose, so a diet that's heavy with high carbohydrate foods can also fuel cancer cell growth as well as other health problems that are known to be linked to excess blood glucose, including: obesity, diabetes, heart disease, an overgrowth of pathogenic intestinal flora, gout, panic attacks, hyperactivity, and depression.

-----------------------------------------------------
Every little bit helps
-----------------------------------------------------
Most doctors are not nutritionists, so they're either unaware of the link between sugar and cancer, or they simply neglect to mention it to their patients. If someone you care about is fighting cancer, don't assume they've heard about this important nutritional detail. As always, we encourage you to share this information with anyone you know that might benefit from it.
For anyone who's fighting cancer, there's obviously only one way to go concerning refined sugar. To fight the good fight you have to remove anything that might support the disease.

One Glass of Water

Some interesting tidbits......

One glass of water shuts down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University study.

Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic
math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or

Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day?

(No kidding, all of the above is true...)

Now that I have your attention, go get a glass of water.

Are you using Artificial sweetners for Weight Control?

There are many articles on why the chemicals in artificial sweeteners are toxic for your system. Do you continue to use them anyway in the belief that these sweeteners will help with weight control? Please read the following …Cindy McAsey

Purdue News June 29, 2004

Study: Artificial sweetener may disrupt body's ability to count calories
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Choosing a diet soft drink over a regular, sugar-packed beverage may not be the best way to fight obesity, according to new research from Purdue University. But the researchers said this doesn't mean you should grab a regularly sweetened soft drink instead.

Professor Terry Davidson and associate professor Susan Swithers, both in the Department of Psychological Sciences, found that artificial sweeteners may disrupt the body's natural ability to "count" calories based on foods' sweetness. This finding may explain why increasing numbers of people in the United States lack the natural ability to regulate food intake and body weight. The researchers also found that thick liquids aren't as satisfying – calorie for calorie – as are more solid foods.

Based on the research, Davidson and Swithers suggest paying more attention to calories consumed and engaging in regular exercise to battle the bulge.

The Purdue's researchers' study, "A Pavlovian Approach to the Problem of Obesity," appears in the July issue of International Journal of Obesity. Davidson and Swithers, members of the Ingestive Behavior Research Center at Purdue, suggest that being able to automatically match caloric intake with caloric need depends on the body's ability to learn that the taste and feel of food by the mouth suggests the appropriate caloric intake. Much as Pavlov's dogs learned that the sound of a bell signaled food, people learn that both sweet tastes and dense, viscous foods signal high calories. This learning process begins very early in life and perhaps without conscious awareness, according to the researchers.

"The body's natural ability to regulate food intake and body weight may be weakened when this natural relationship is impaired by artificial sweeteners," said Davidson, an expert in behavioral neuroscience. "Without thinking about it, the body learns that it can use food characteristics such as sweetness and viscosity to gauge its caloric intake. The body may use this information to determine how much food is required to meet its caloric needs."

Over the past 25 years, there has been a dramatic increase in the consumption of artificially sweetened foods and low viscosity, high-calorie beverages, said Swithers, a developmental psychobiologist.

"Incidence of overweight and obesity has also increased markedly during this period," she said. "Our hypothesis is that experience with these foods interferes with the natural ability of the body to use sweet taste and viscosity to gauge caloric content of foods and beverages. When you substitute artificial sweetener for real sugar, however, the body learns it can no longer use its sense of taste to gauge calories. So, the body may be fooled into thinking a product sweetened with sugar has no calories and, therefore, people overeat."

Swithers said that the loss of the body's ability to gauge caloric intake contributes to increased food intake and weight gain, especially when people do not count calories on their own. A similar dynamic is at work with foods' texture and thickness.

"Historically, we knew that our body learns that if the food is thick, such as whole milk, it tends to have more calories than compared to a thinner liquid such as skim milk," Swithers said. "Now, our research reinforces this and takes it one step further, showing that our bodies translate this information about perceived calories into a gauge to tell us when to stop eating."

The researchers based their hypothesis on Pavlovian theory. Ivan Pavlov, known for his work in the early 20th century, is famous for his experiment in training dogs to associate food with the ringing of a bell. After being conditioned to the bell, the dogs salivated when they heard it – even when they did not see or smell food. Davidson and Swithers propose that rats learn a similar relationship between the taste or texture of a food and the calories it contains and may use this information to control food intake and body weight.

Davidson and Swithers' findings are based on two studies.

In the first study, two groups of rats were given two different sweet-flavored liquids. In the first group, both liquids were sweetened with natural high-calorie sweeteners so there was a consistent relationship between sweet taste and calories. For the second group, one of the flavored liquids was artificially sweetened with non-caloric saccharin so that the relationship between sweet taste and calories was inconsistent.

After 10 days of exposure to the flavors, the rats were allowed to eat a small amount of a sweet, high-calorie chocolate flavored snack. The researchers compared the two groups' ability to compensate for the calories contained in the chocolate snack. The rats that had experienced the inconsistent relationship between sweet taste and calories were less able to compensate for the calories contained in the snack and ate more than the rats that had experienced the consistent relationship between sweetness and caloric intake.

"This suggests that experience with the inconsistent relationship reduced the natural ability of the rats to use sweet taste to judge the caloric content of the snack," Swithers said.

In the second study, two groups of rats were given a high-calorie dietary supplement along with their regular food every day for 30 days. Although the supplements were identical in calories and nutritive content, they differed in viscosity. For one group the supplement had the consistency of thick chocolate pudding, whereas for the other group, the supplement was similar to chocolate milk. Davidson and Swithers found that over the course of the study, the rats given the milk-like supplement gained significantly more weight than the rats given the more viscous, pudding-like supplement.

"This finding indicates that rats are less able to estimate and compensate for the calories contained in liquids than in semi-solid foods," Davidson said. "If the body is less able to detect and compensate for calories contained in liquids, then intake of high-calorie beverages compared to semi-solid or solid foods could increase the tendency to gain weight."

The number of Americans consuming sugar-free products increased from less than 70 million in 1987 to more than 160 million in 2000. During the same period, the consumption of regular soft drinks increased by more than 15 gallons per capita annually.

"Increased consumption of artificial sweeteners and of high-calorie beverages is not the sole cause of obesity, but it may be a contributing factor," Swithers said. "It could become more of a factor as more people turn to artificial sweeteners as a means of weight control and, at the same time, others consume more high-calorie beverages to satisfy their cravings."

Davidson and Swithers are evaluating potential mechanisms that may produce the short- and long-term effects on food intake and body weight, as well as whether age or gender are contributing factors. Additional research also will need to evaluate if the body and brain can be retrained to naturally measure calories after consuming artificial sweeteners or high-calorie beverages.

The National Institute of Child Health and Development, National Institute of Digestive Diseases and Kidney Disorders, and Purdue School of Liberal Arts funded this research.

ABSTRACT

A Pavlovian Approach to the Problem of Obesity

Terry L. Davidson & Susan E. Swithers

During the past 15-20 years the incidence of overweight and obesity in the United States has grown rapidly. The processes that underlie this alarming trend remain largely unspecified. We hypothesize that degradation of the ability to use certain orosensory cues to predict the caloric consequences of intake may contribute to overeating and excessive weight gain. The results of two preliminary studies with rats are consistent with this hypothesis. In one study, the ability of rat pups to regulate their caloric intake after consuming a novel, high-calorie, sweet food was disrupted if they had received prior training with sweet tastes that failed to predict the caloric consequences of eating. Another study found that altering the normal predictive relationship between food viscosity and calories led to increased body weight in adult rats. Dietary factors that degrade the relationship between sweet tastes, food viscosity and calories may contribute to overeating and weight gain.

Soy Protein...Why MGM Soy Protein is Different

SOY has become a confusing and controversial subject for many lately. The American Heart Association recommends we each get 25 grams of soy daily (see below). Isn’t drinking soy milk or eating soy foods just as good as using the MGM soy powders?

The following checklist by Dr. Brouse, followed by MGM input, is valuable in clarifying why the answer to that question is an emphatic NO! Not only are Energizing Soy and Instant Protein different from soy FOODS. We’re different and better than other soy POWDERS on the market. Our products give health benefits other products simply can’t. MGM is the “Most TRUSTED Name in Clinical Science,” so we have scientific proof for the claim…plus MGM’s strict quality control standards.

What You Need to Know About Soy
by Dr. Richard Brouse

Common Concerns About Soy:

Do soybeans cause cancer?
It is true that "overcooked" soy does contain "carcinogenic" compounds. When soy is extruded through high temperature, high-pressure steam nozzles to form what is called "textured vegetable protein - TVP for short", this form of processing renders the soy "meat substitute" carcinogenic or cancer causing. TVP is what is used in soy dogs and soy burgers, and should be avoided.

What about roasted soybeans?
Whole soybeans are high in plant fat. If soybeans are roasted to eat as soy nuts, the heat alters the fat and makes it a trans-fatty acid, which causes both cancer and heart disease. As roasted soy nuts sit on the shelf or in the cupboard in storage, the oils are becoming more and more rancid and carcinogenic. AVOID roasted soybeans.

But I've heard that soy protein is hard on the kidneys!
Animal protein is much harder to digest than vegetable protein. Since many people have digestive difficulties, protein that is not thoroughly digested is very challenging to the kidneys. Powdered protein is in a predigested state, and the BEST protein source to choose! Protein is not the enemy - it is essential for life. It is true, however, that EXCESSIVE protein is hard on the kidneys, so if a person consumes more than 2 grams of protein per pound of body weight daily, AND does not consume adequate carbohydrates with it, this could cause kidney damage.

I have breast cancer, and I've been told I cannot have soy!
It is true that soy is a "phyto-estrogen" food, which means it contains substances that have hormone-like components. However, their estrogen strength is 1/1000th that of the body's own stronger estrogens. Therefore, you want to load your digestive system with quality controlled raw soy powder, because these weaker estrogens will block the estrogen receptor sites from receiving your body's own stronger estrogens and therefore be very protective against estrogen fed cancer.

Soy Quality Control Checklist

Do not purchase soy powders and expect them to produce positive health results unless you know that the following “ESSENTIAL SEVEN” quality controls have been met by the manufacturer:

Essential Seven Checklists for a Quality Soy Product:

1) Were the soybeans ORGANICALLY GROWN?
Studies have shown decreased levels of food nutrients and increased levels of nitrates in chemically fertilized crops, when compared with their organic counterparts. There is a connection between the ingestion of nitrates & CANCER! Therefore, it is important to know that pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides have not been used during the growing process. In particular, with soybeans, since they are such a hardy plant, a powerful and DEADLY weed spray called Round up is usually used. For your safety, you must know that your soy products are organically grown.

2) Were the soybeans GENETICALLY ENGINEERED?
Genetically engineered soybeans are much cheaper to purchase, and most companies producing soy products look for ways to save money.

3) Does your soybean powder contain ALL of the nine essential amino acids?
One of the most valuable features of the soybean is that it is a complete protein and provides ALL nine of the essential amino acids. The body requires these daily to produce hormones, digestive juices, antibodies, and enzymes. HOWEVER, not all soybeans are created equal. Quality and amino acid content will vary based on soil conditions, and variable growing and harvest conditions. If one essential amino acid is missing, the immune system can be depressed 30%, and many important body functions are delayed or stopped. Therefore, it is essential that each batch of soybeans be checked for amino acid content if we want to depend on the soy isolate to provide a GUARANTEED supply of the nine essential amino acids.

4) Were the crushed soy flakes washed in alcohol or water?
Alcohol washing destroys isoflavones content up to 88%! It is the isoflavones that reduce the risk of breast, prostate, lung and bowel cancer! As well, it is the isoflavones that are so beneficial in hormone balancing and increasing bone mass.

5) Was the "anti-thyroid", "anti-growth" substance in the raw soy removed?
Orientals, who have consumed large amounts of soy for years, have known that RAW soy contains an "anti-growth", "anti-tyrosine" substance. Tyrosine deficiency will cause low blood pressure, low body temperature, and restless leg syndrome. Therefore, Orientals always lightly cook their soy foods to deactivate the "anti-tyrosine/anti-growth" substance. SHAKLEE has designed an extracting process that removes this substance, yet keeps the soy in a raw form in order to maintain the HIGHEST LEVEL OF AMINO ACIDS and ISOFLAVONES, which are very sensitive to heat.

6) Is your soybean food RAW or heated?
Amino acids are very sensitive to heat. In some studies, cooking protein has been shown to destroy up to 50% of some ESSENTIAL AMINO ACIDS. If an individual consistently consumes a diet that is lacking in all of the essential amino acids, inadequate brain development and hormones, or other body tissue development can be the result.

7) Has CALCIUM been added to your soy powder?
Some negative reports about soy say that soy powders are VERY ACIDIC and cause bone loss because it causes calcium to be drawn from the bones!!!! The raw soy bean is a NEUTRAL food--neither acidic or alkaline. However, the removal of the soybean oil (which is essential so the soy powder will not go rancid very quickly), makes the powder very acidic. Therefore, adequate calcium (which is very alkaline) must be added to cause the powder to be neutral again, or it can cause the above stated problem. Many protein powder manufacturers do not add any or enough calcium.

Magnesium takes muscle pains away...

Magnesium has worked miracles for my husband. A year ago, he bought a cane because he could hardly walk any more. He was only 42 and moved like an old man. His back hurt, his knees and his feet. We tried many, many doctors and remedies with little or no success. While waiting in a chiropractor's office, he read an article about magnesium and noticed that he had a large number of the symptoms related to deficiency, including muscle pain, constipation and thickened toenails. We wondered if he was getting enough magnesium, even though he was taking the Cal-Mag.

My husband saw results from the magnesium almost immediately. The chiroprator was skeptical, but when she learned that it didn't give him loose bowels and he felt significantly better, she agreed that he really was suffering from a magnesium defeciency and his body seemed to have an higher need for it.

Today, he is pain-free as long as he continues to take the magnesium faithfully. His headaches are fewer, his toenails are growing out thinner and thinner, he wrestles with the kids and runs up stairs. Best of all, his cane is now just an addition to the costume trunk.

My husband takes about 450-600mg of magnesium per day along with his Cal-Mag. When he starts to get achy and tight, he knows he's forgotten to take it for a couple of days. Since discovering this, my father tried it, and his back pain went away, and my father-in-law told us that it made him feel much better as well.

This is such an easy fix. I wish we had known about it long ago. I say to anyone with pain, "Give it a go and see what happens." You'll know when you have enough, because it will begin to work like a laxative. If it doesn't, you'll know you need it.

"The Lipitor Dilemma" - a worthwhile read

This came from Hope Hotchkiss R.N.

I found this article sitting on a neglected shelf in the VNA office while I was watching a very boring but mandatory video of an inservice I had missed. I found it to be an eye opener. Here's the link: http://www.n3inc.com/SmartMoneyReprint_103003Web.pdf

Will YOU have a Heart Attack?

Approximately one million North Americans die each year from heart disease! More needs to be done with prevention, not treatment.

The REASON: almost half of all heart attack deaths occur with the first heart attack before treatment can be started.

Therefore, prevention is an absolute MUST. Unless you pursue prevention with all your power, the chances are that a heart attack is in your future. So how can you change the odds to be in your favor?
First of all, follow the basic guidelines set down by numerous experts in heart disease prevention:
Do not smoke
Get adequate exercise and reach a healthy weight
Eat a heart-healthy diet
Minimize stress
Maintain a healthy Blood Pressure (CRP) this is a blood marker which indicates the presence of inflammation.
It signals how likely that plaque is to rupture and release potentially dangerous plaque-containing clots into the blood stream.
To lower CRP exercise, lose weight if needed, increase soluble fiber, take Soy Protein twice per day, increase Vitamin C and eat milled flaxseed or take Flaxseed Oil Capsules.

(Vegetable sourced Soy Protein is non-inflammatory protein, whereas animal protein is inflammatory protein. Two level tablespoons of Instant Protein OR three level tablespoons of Flavor-Enhanced Soy Protein is equivalent to one serving of beef, chicken or turkey.)

Enhanced absorption of all nutrients, especially calcium 2. Reduced serum cholesterol3. Improved lactose tolerance and the ability to digest milk products4. Production of vitamins in the colon... B1, B2, B12, Biotin, Folic Acid, Pantothenic Acid & Niacin, Vitamin K5. Enhanced healthy bowel elimination... reduces many bowel problems (inflammatory bowel syndrome, colitis, etc.)6. Essential to prevent liver diseases and cancer 7. Promotes digestive relief, including heartburn 8. Strengthens your immune system by making anti-viral and anti-fungal components9. Helps keep all hormones in balance10. Plays a role in reducing or preventing acne, psoriasis, eczema, allergies, migraines, gout, rheumatoid arthritis, etc. Is the number of probiotics in your body OK?
According to Dr. Bruce Miller... "Probably NOT!" The number of bifidobacteria is about 92% of the intestinal flora in breast fed infants. BUT by the time we reach adulthood, the number is only 15%, and it continues to drop as we age. "This is one reason why aging adults lose the ability to tolerate milk products and have more chronic constipation." Probiotics decline as we age...
Dr. Bruce Miller shares the following about elevated homocysteine and C-reactive protein:
1. Homocysteine... elevated blood levels increase the risk of premature coronary artery disease, even among people who have normal cholesterol levels, because homocysteine damages the lining inside the arteries and causes oxidation. For every 10% elevation of homocysteine, there is nearly the same rise in the risk of developing SEVERE coronary heart disease. Homocysteine levels can generally be lowered by increased intake of B vitamins (Folic Acid is the most important, (that's why MGM Supplement coats their B with folic acid which causes it to release first, thus assuring full absorption. This is a unique patented process - no one else has it.)
2. C-reactive having digestive problems, sluggish bowels, a weak immune system, or working to bring your hormones back into balance, it's important to add probiotic supplements to your diet.

#1 Constipation Relief with Our Herb Laxative

Fall is a time when thing seem to slow down a little from summer activities. Sometimes this in-activity also slows the digestive tract too...

Proper waste elimination is one of the keys to optimal health, to prevent constipation and aid proper bowel movement through the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It is said that 90% of degenerative diseases are related to or worsened by the food we eat passing too slowly through our intestinal system. A gentle but fast-acting natural herb laxative helps the body cleanse itself. To order our herbal laxative product OR for personal service call 888-272-6701

In addition to senna leaf powder, our herb laxative contains an additional seven herbs; Rhubard Root, Cascara Sagrada Bark, Ginger Root, Licorice Root, Irish Moss, Butternut, and Cayenne to enhance its intended use - to speed up the movement of wastes through the intestinal system and prevent constipation. Our product accomplishes this without the usual side effects of taking a laxative.

Several of the herbs contained in this product produce a laxative action. In addition to the senna leaf powder, buckthorn bark powder, licorice root, blue malva powder, and culver root have shown laxative action and, along with the other herbs present, fulfill other functions within the gastrointestinal tract to complete the action of this herb laxative. For example, licorice root, alfalfa, fennel seed and anise seed aid in digestion. Licorice root also reduces the production of stomach acid, relieves gas, as does anise seed. Anise seed also acts to relieve stomach cramps. In high doses rhubarb can cause a laxative effect, and it has the opposite effect is small doses!

The label states a serving size of four herb laxative tablets. That would cause a gentle bowel movement within several hours. By taking less than the serving size, one can effectively speed up the flow of waste through the intestinal tract without causing diarrhea.

Herb Laxative Active Ingredients
Rhubarb root is used in many laxative products. It is considered a mild laxative that produces a soft stool 6-10 hours after ingestion. This herb is an important part of this formulation because the A-factors (anthraquinones) of this herb differ somewhat from those of Cascara - only some of them reach the large intestines intact, while others are resorbed in the small intestine, and later released into the large intestine. The timing of the absorption of Rhubarb is thus displaced to some degree from the other laxative agents in this formulation, thereby promoting longer and smoother activity of the whole. Rhubarb is especially well suited for children since it is very mild in action.

Cascara Sagrada Bark is one of the most effective, gentle and non-habit-forming laxatives available. It's anthraquinone content is what makes is so effective. Anthraquinones, or A-factors, produce a soft or formed stool in about 6-8 hours with little or no griping. This herb does not lose its efficiency with repeated use. Cascara can even be used to correct the habitual constipation incurred by the abuse of other laxatives.

Ginger root plays an important role in our herb laxative. Ginger eases the discomforting effects of colon reflex activity and provides a pleasant degree of mildness to the herbal laxative functioning. It also helps to restore and normalize proper tone and reflex faculty to the GI tract. Ginger root has been proven to normalize peristalsis (the muscular contractions and dilation of the walls of the gastrointestinal tract that move its contents onward).

Licorice root helps to ease the discomforting effects that may result from laxative use. It provides a mild boost to the adrenal system that may be stressed in certain conditions for which laxatives are often suggested. Licorice root also protects and heals distressed mucous membranes of the intestinal tract.

Irish moss is used as a stabilizer in many dairy products. In its raw form, Irish Moss is used as a bulk laxative, which also coats and soothes the entire gastrointestinal tract. It also alleviates peptic and duodenal ulcers in humans while having no adverse effects on the colon.

Butternut has been known as one of the most mild, efficacious, safest, and best laxatives to be found. Butternut is also good as a treatment for liver disorders and intestinal sickness, as practiced extensively in homeopathy.

Cayenne acts as an effective catalyst and augmenter of the other principles in the blend.
