Another DEADLEY reason to exercise caution with antibiotic and antacid usage!

Here are excerpts from a recent newspaper article which tells the tale of how antibiotics and antacids are causing anordinarily harmless bacterium present in the human body to wreak havoc of epidemic proportions here in some Canadian hospitals recently.

This article prompted me to hit the 'net to further research the subject. Apparently, according to other articles I found, this same scenario has been occurringing the US as well.

It's a classic example of mainstream medicine disturbing thenatural balance within the human body, with deadly results.

I'd like to add that, in a few of the articles I read following this one re: this subject, they 'grudgingly suggest' the success of a potential NATURAL antidote (no surprise to Shaklee people), of a NATURAL YOGURT-TYPE PRODUCT which restores the balance of bacteria which normally live inharmony within the digestive tract. (GASP... SURPRISE...)

Although I only quickly scanned the other articles, I didn't see another DRUG mentioned tobe used to counteract the harm caused by the original DRUGS in this unfortunate scenario! Could officials possibly be waking up, in some small way, to just how terribly WRONG it is to upset the natural applecart, so to speak? I wonder...

Feds to chase superbug
Clostridium Difficile has killed 600 in Quebec
by:Elizabeth Thompson, Canwest News Service, Ottawa

Federal Health Minister Ujjal Dosanjh is concerned about the outbreak of C. difficile bacterium that has killed an estimated 600 hospital patients inQuebec and said the government will begin monitoring hospitals across Canadafor the superbug. Speaking to reporters Thursday Dosanjih said he considersthe outbreak of the superbug "very serious".

Concerns were raised earlier this week when Radio-Canada reported that about7,000 hospital patients in Quebec had been infected by Clostridium Difficile since last year and that 600 had died. Publichealth officials have questioned the figures, but a second study Wednesdayrevealed 10 Quebec hospitals observed 1,612 cases of the infection in thefirst six months of this year. The study found 109 of those patients diedas a direct result of the infection, while in 108 other cases it was considered an indirect cause.

Blogger Note...
[And this is in just one of ten provinces! Extrapolate those figures acrossthe entire country AND the US...what does that tell you about the overuse ofand dependence upon antibiotics and antacids today????!!!!!!
It scares the heck out of me because everyone around seem so blase about it all as is evidenced by this article rating a lowly page 10 of the front section of thenewspaper and what can be seen everyday all around us...

folks everywhere oh-so-casually and continuously popping OTC (over-the-counter) as well as prescription antacid products, rationalizing the use of antacids like Tums so they can 'kill two birds with one stone' so to speak, by supposedly also upping their calcium intake at the same time they temporarily soothe their stomach, continuing to abuse antibiotics...

treating symptoms rather thandetermining and eliminating the cause(s) of their problems...

these band aid solutions bring about the type of results seen in this article when nature fights back for disturbing her finely-tuned balances within the body!]

Ken Polk, a spokesman for Dosanjih, said it isn't unusual for there to becases of C. difficile infection across the country and the bug isn't communicable from one person to another.

What is unusual is the number ofcases in Quebec and the death toll. Quebec Health Minister Phillippe Couillard has blamed a new, highly virulent strain of the bacterium for the increase in deaths.

[A sidebar was included next to the article, which contained the following]:

POSSIBLE KILLER: Clostridium difficile, or C. difficile, is an organism that exists in the stomach naturally. The use of antibiotics and stomach acid suppressants to treat other illnesses can cause it to multiply unnaturally and create atoxin that can eventually kill a patient.
